Dear Ms. Manneh:

The 6th annual Oslo Freedom Forum will be held on October 20- 22, 2014. Each year, an intimate group of leaders from advocacy, business, media, philanthropy, policy, and technology gather in Norway for three days to address the world’s most challenging humanitarian issues.

It is with great admiration for your work that we invite you to deliver a talk at the Oslo Freedom Forum. We would be honored to add you to our community of voices.

By way of background, the Oslo Freedom Forum is described by The Guardian as the "Davos for Revolutionaries," while The Economist calls it "an annual human-rights festival that attracts brave and enterprising opponents of despotism from all over the world." The Daily Beast described it as a "conference of do-gooders conspiring to stir up trouble," while BuzzFeed says it's "an internationalist networking party where dissidents trade tips on overthrowing authoritarian regimes." Vice Magazine called it "a bit like Comic-Con, only the heroes are real."

In its first five years, the Forum has united game-changers like Aung San Suu Kyi, Chen Guangcheng, Ales Bialiatski, Manal al-Sharif, Václav Havel, Ali Abdulemam, Somaly Mam, Mario Vargas Llosa, Wael Ghonim, Shirin Ebadi, Jimmy Wales, Lech Walesa, Leymah Gbowee, and Elie Wiesel. Each spring in Oslo we work to: raise human rights to the top of the world agenda; spotlight the work of activists and innovators; inspire action through the exchange of ideas; build a vibrant, international community; expose unfree and closed societies; establish a human rights axis for journalists; and network participants with allies and supporters. We mix comedy, music, and art with powerful presentations and a diverse global crowd to create one of the world's unique events.

The resulting experience is well summarized by Wired: “Over intensely moving sessions at Oslo's Christiania Theatre and the nearby Grand Hotel, and afterwards over dinner, drinks and late-night conversation, stories are shared, campaigns sharpened and new alliances forged. The power of the event—whose sponsors include Sergey Brin’s and Peter Thiel’s charitable foundations—lies in the seamless mix of grassroots activists, many of whom have risked their lives to speak out, and the top-level policymakers and influencers who can act on what they learn."

We hope you will consider this invitation to share your experiences with this community. We are glad to cover your travel costs and expenses in Norway, and host you at Oslo's Grand Hotel, also the site of the Nobel Peace Prize. To follow up you can reach me at garry@oslofreedomforum.com or at +1.212.246.8486. We look forward to hearing from you and discussing your participation.

Sincerely,
